To recognize outstanding student leadership in the area of campus mental health, the University of Michigan initiated the Student Mental Health Advocate Award in 2007. Ryan Dougherty, senior at U-M, BS in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience, is this year's winner of the Student Mental Health Advocate Award. Ryan is an assistant in Vicki Ellingrod's laboratory at the College of Pharmacy.
Faculty Involved in Design of CTools Lesson Builder

Dr. Gundy Sweet, director of curriculum assessment and clinical professor of pharmacy, was one of the 20 faculty members involved in the pilot for Lesson Builder, a feature of CTools. Lesson Builder’s sequencing capabilities allow instructors to design CTools sites with easy-to-follow navigation and instructions for students.
Dr. Shaomeng Wang Honored as 2014 Distinguished University Innovator

Dr. Shaomeng Wang's laboratory has successfully developed several classes of anticancer drugs, which are designed to specifically kill tumor cells while leaving normal cells unharmed.
Dr. Shaomeng Wang has been selected as the 2014 Distinguished University Innovator Award Recipient. He is being honored for his pioneering work in the field of drug discovery and his on-going efforts to bring the fruits of this work to the marketplace.
Investigating Student Learning Grant Allows Further Investigation in Team-Based Learning

Barry Bleske and his team have received an Investigating Student Learning Grant from the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT). The awarding of this grant will allow investigation into the effectiveness of team-based learning (TBL) in a rigorous construct. Specifically, Bleske and his team will be conducting a randomized crossover trial evaluating short and long term learning outcomes comparing TBL to lecture in an elective course focusing on novel therapeutic topics.
Three Faculty Awarded Grant for Transforming Learning for Third Century Initiative

Congratulations to Vicki Ellingrod, Barry Bleske, and Tami Remington. These three faculty have been awarded a Transforming Learning for Third Century (TLTC) Quick Wins grant. The title of their proposal isA Virtual Translational Step from Class Room to Real World. With the funds from this proposal, we will be providing all students access to the Decision Simulation software for 2 years.

Dr. Karen Farris, Charles R. Walgreen III Professor of Pharmacy Administration & Associate Chair for Professional and Graduate Education, presented her work on improving medication use via text message at the MCubed symposium in November 2013.

This innovative project combines artificial intelligence programming with messages developed by expert health communicators in a text messaging system developed to improve medication use by individuals using hypertensive medications.

The article is a tri-institution collaboration between Dr. Sweet, Dr. Erin Fox (directory of drug information, University of Utah), and Valerie Jensen, RPh (associate director of the drug shortage program, FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research).
