Clinical faculty within the Department of Clinical Sciences conduct research for new treatments and prevention methods to find out if they are safe, effective, and better than the current standard of care (the best known treatment). These methods can include new drugs, new combinations of existing therapies, new approaches to radiation therapy or surgery, new methods of treatment (e.g., targeted therapies or gene therapy), and new prevention methods. Clinical trials are the best available treatment option for many people with cancer, and typically provide the highest-quality care.
