Rho Chi and Phi Lambda Sigma Initiation Ceremony Celebrates Student Excellence
On September 21, 2015, the annual Rho Chi Society and Phi Lambda Sigma Induction Ceremony was held at the Vandenberg Room in the Michigan League. The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy chapters of Rho Chi and Phi Lambda Sigma each welcomed 16 students into membership. In addition, Phi Lambda Sigma initiated James Dalton, PhD, Dean and Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, as an honorary member.
Rho Chi and Phi Lambda Sigma are unique pharmacy student organizations in that membership is honorary. The Rho Chi Society is an academic honor society which invites students who achieve a GPA within the top 20% of the third year pharmacy class. Phi Lambda Sigma is a national pharmacy leadership society and requires demonstration of leadership abilities in order for students to gain membership.
Stanley Kent, RPh, MS, Chief Pharmacy Officer, U-M Health System, and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy, was the evening's keynote speaker. His inspiring speech emphasized the importance of building meaningful relationships with patients, colleagues, and the community throughout one's pharmacy career. Rho Chi faculty adviser Karen Farris, PhD, and Phi Lambda Sigma faculty adviser John Clark, PharmD, MS, facilitated the induction process. Closing remarks from each society's student president enthusiastically welcomed the new members.
