In this multidisciplinary course students will design their own clinical trial by being part of a T0– T3 translational research team. Topics covered include trial design, ethical issues, managing the study team, study conduct, IRB and regulatory practice, protecting and respecting participants, managing data and data safety, and communicating findings. 

 

Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science 832

The goal of this course is to learn medication data abstraction, effective communication of analytics insights, and the design and evaluation of informatics technology.

Pharmacy 607

Students will develop and improve their understanding of the role of pharmacists in veterinary medicine including opportunities for specialization. Veterinary therapeutics will be reviewed including cardiology, anesthesia, critical care, oncology, antimicrobials, parasitology-zoonosis, food animal medicine, and early drug (pre‐clinical) development. Veterinary laws and regulations including compounding will be discussed.

Biostatistics 607

This modular course focuses on basic programming skills for Python, R, and C++. It will cover key features of each including conditional statements, loops, data structures, basic data processing and analysis, basic data visualization, and object-orientation programming. 

Entrepreneurial Studies 720

This interdisciplinary course introduces graduate students to the key issues faced by companies attempting to bring science and technology innovations in biomedical therapeutics, devices and diagnostics to market. Because the details of doing this change, the course will present not just current practices but also the rationales behind those practices and more general, analytic frameworks that students will be able use when specific industry conditions change.

Epidemiology 634

Infectious disease transmission modeling provides a theoretical framework for the field of infectious disease epidemiology; i.e., it provides a basis for thinking about study design, data analysis, and decision making.  This course will serve as an introduction to infectious disease transmission modeling, teaching more quantitative concepts of disease transmission.

Step into the role of a data consultant and use data to facilitate change in healthcare research, quality improvement and patient outcomes, and population health. Data consultants act as the bridge between the leadership and project stakeholders, and the data analysts to help in translating the data into actionable results. Their expertise lies in effective communication, scoping of projects, and needs assessment. They examine data, processes and technologies to evaluate current state and critical problems.

Entrepreneurial Studies 515

Targeted toward graduate students of business as well as those in engineering and scientific disciplines, this elective course is designed to provide students with an introductory overview of the world of venturing - that is, to give students a broad sense of the business fundamentals needed to plan, launch and grow a new startup business.
