Summary

Dr. Phan is an nationally recognized leader in pediatric pharmacy practice, education, and research, with over 20 years’ experience. Throughout her career, Dr. Phan has developed innovative clinical pharmacy practice models in ambulatory care, specifically those in pulmonology, such as those in pediatric cystic fibrosis (CF), pediatric severe asthma and adult CF and contributes and leds research related to the chronic managment of children with pulmonary conditions like CF and asthma. In her role as Director of Experiential Education, Dr. Phan and the team from Office of Experiential Education oversee, coordinate, and support the various experiential experiences,  including Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs), which are a core component of the curriculum in the Doctor of Pharmacy Program at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Dr. Phan is also Faculty Affiliate and Faculty Executive Representative for the Susan B. Meister Child Health Evaluation and Research (CHEAR) Center at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Phan received her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Michigan and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Pharmacotherapy at The Ohio State University. Prior to to her return to the University of Michigan, Dr. Phan served as faculty at the University of Arizona Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine as well as Associate Research Scientist for the UA Asthma and Airway Disease Research Center for over 10 years. 

Dr. Phan has been recognized for her contributions to clinical practice, service, and research from various national professional organizations. She has served as President of the Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA) (2019-2020) and as Board Regent for the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) (2023-2026). She is also designated as a Fellow for each, American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA). Dr. Phan is also active in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, as part of the Success with Therapies Research Consortium (STRC) and as one of only two pharmacists in the U.S. appointed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Data Safety Monitoring Board.  Dr. Phan’s current research interests include patient-caregiver medication education and self-management, medication use in schools, and interprofessional care of children with chronic conditions such as cystic fibrosis and asthma.

Outside the world of pharmacy, Dr. Phan enjoys exploring new restaurants, baking, photography, and spending time with friends and family.
