Thermodynamic and kinetic properties of cocrystals play an essential role in the delivery of poorly soluble drugs. While cocrystals enhance the solubility of water-insoluble drugs, one of the main challenges in their development has been their high solubilities and themodynamic instability in aqueous media. Rodríguez has recently discovered that cocrystal solubility can be fine-tuned as a result of the differential affinities of cocrystal components with solution additives. The MCube team will use their expertise on crystallization, dissolution, solution /solid state chemistry, mathematical modeling, and surface characterization to gain a molecular level understanding of cocrystal solubility and dissolution modulation.
