Carrie Nemerovski Named 2023 Preceptor of the Year
Carrie Nemerovski, PharmD’07, was named the 2023 Preceptor of the Year at the College of Pharmacy’s annual Preceptor Symposium May 5, 2023.
Dr. Carrie Nemerovski is a senior clinical content consultant at Wolters Kluwer Health, where she writes and maintains the Lexicomp drug interactions database, Lexi-Interact. She has held this position for over nine years and has precepted Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) students on her drug information rotation for the past eight years. She completed her PharmD, a PGY1 residency, and a PGY2 residency in cardiology here at the University of Michigan. Prior to joining Wolters Kluwer, she worked as a clinical faculty member at Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and clinical pharmacy specialist at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.
“Dr. Nemerovski is a great preceptor,” says a student nominator. “I love that she is patient with her students and makes sure everyone is on board and knows what they are doing to get the task done efficiently. She is always available to help and be there for us if we need her and her enthusiasm is refreshing. It felt like I was working in a real job, taken seriously, and I ended up liking drug information a ton more than I did going into the rotation.”
“My practice area and rotation structure are unique, and because of that, I’ve developed several core teaching principles that I aim to deliver, and specific educational goals I want students to achieve, each rotation,” explains Dr. Nemerovski. “It is mostly a remote rotation – even pre-pandemic, I only meet with students via video call three days per week, and students spend most of their time working independently. This structure is intentional as it allows them to foster independence, hone their time management skills, and mimics many aspects of their future work environments.”
“Dr. Nemerovski was awesome and always had interesting projects for students,” another student nominator says. “I learned so much during my drug info rotation about literature search and decision-making skills.”
In addition to precepting, Dr. Nemerovski volunteers as a peer reviewer for several pharmacy journals and serves as the co-chair of the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ Publications Committee. In her free time, Dr. Nemerovski enjoys being with her friends, human and canine family, watching youth sporting events, and reading.
