Adamo Brancaccio Named 2022 Preceptor of the Year
Adamo Brancaccio, PharmD, was named the 2022 Preceptor of the Year Award winner at the 18th Annual Preceptor Symposium, May 27, 2022.
Dr. Brancaccio, an internal medicine clinical pharmacist with Michigan Medicine, has been a preceptor for both IPPE Direct Patient Care and APPE General Medicine rotations for the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy since September of 2013.
“One of my favored aspects of my career is having the privilege to precept and mentor future pharmacists,” said Dr. Brancaccio. “I like to call on my experiences as a student to mold my preceptor style. I continually ask myself: ‘What did I like as a student pharmacist? What attributes did I admire most in a preceptor? How did I learn best? How was I challenged? What situations made me grow the most?’”
“It is a fantastic feeling knowing that I am helping students that take my rotation as much as they are helping me to become a better pharmacist, mentor, and preceptor,” added Dr. Brancaccio.
Student nominators praised Dr. Brancaccio for the thoughtfulness of his teaching style and how well he prepared students to take the next step in their careers.
“Dr. Brancaccio is incredibly knowledgeable and eager to aid in the professional development of residents and students,” noted one nominator. “He provided many opportunities for growth by asking thought-provoking questions on complex cases and creating activities and assessments to build knowledge and apply information. I was grateful to have learned so much on this rotation and believe it has prepared me well to start my career.”
Dr. Brancaccio completed his undergraduate studies in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, where he was born and raised. He earned his PharmD at Wingate University School of Pharmacy in North Carolina, then completed a post graduate residency at St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
