David Frame, PharmD, has received the 2016 Teaching Excellence Award. This award recognizes exceptional teaching in the University of Michigan PharmD and PhD programs. Selection criteria for the award includes: clear and logical presentation of material, fair and appropriate evaluations of student performance, ability to motivate students, responsiveness to students’ needs, and innovation in teaching methods or content.

Dr. Frame is a clinical specialist in Bone Marrow Transplant and Immuno-hematology at the University of Michigan Health System and an assistant professor of Pharmacy at the College of Pharmacy. He was previously the director of Clinical Oncology Services and Research at Rush Medical Center in Chicago as well as an assistant professor of pharmacology at Rush Medical School and an adjunct clinical professor at Midwestern College of Pharmacy. David received his BS and Doctorate of Pharmacy at Wayne State and did his Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the University of Illinois in Chicago. 

At the U-M College of Pharmacy, Dr. Frame has been active in teaching immunology and oncology in the therapeutics course, he has taught for several years in the class portion of the IPPE to help prepare students for rotations, and he has been a preceptor for numerous students and residents on the Bone Marrow Transplant rotation. Dr. Frame’s teaching places a strong emphasis on pharmacology as well as tying together principles in pharmaceutics in order to develop a well balanced approach to appropriate therapeutic treatment of a complex group of patients. Dr. Frame has been instrumental in helping to reshape the pharmacology course at the College and in helping to develop the new Immuno-hematology service at the hospital. 

Dr. Frame’s students have the highest praise for his teaching style. Students agree his are among the most difficult, and rewarding, classes at the College. One student said, “Dr. Frame did an excellent job providing us with relevant clinical wisdom. I also appreciated that he forced us to truly think conceptually about medication therapy rather than just memorizing facts. His enthusiasm for the material was contagious.” Another student commented that, “Dr. Frame is one of the best professors I've had in both my professional and undergraduate education. His vast knowledge is great for students and he challenges students to think critically and apply what we know in pharmacy thus far to solve complex problems.”
