“My teammates and all of the staff were amazed that I was able to attend even with the rigorous course-load as a professional student and I know how incredibly fortunate I am to have a faculty that is so supportive of their students and willing to help me achieve my lifelong dream of playing for Team USA,” notes Kristin.

U-M Pharmacy Students Receive Exceptional Support from College Faculty, One Achieves Lifelong Dream

Not only has Kristin Griebe, P-1 College of Pharmacy student and member of U-M Women’s Ice Hockey team, attended the World University Games in Italy, but she played her heart out to help make history. In December 2013, Team USA won the bronze medal in hockey, their first ever University-level medal.

Kristin attributes this success to the tremendous support of the College faculty. “My teammates and all of the staff were amazed that I was able to attend even with the rigorous course-load as a professional student and I know how incredibly fortunate I am to have a faculty that is so supportive of their students and willing to help me achieve my lifelong dream of playing for Team USA,” notes Kristin.

This is an outstanding accomplishment, but more importantly, the College strives to work with students who have extraordinary situations on their plates–helping them not only in the classroom, but in achieving their personal goals as well.

“Kristin is a great example of the diverse interests and abilities demonstrated by students in our program. I am very impressed by her ability to balance a challenging curriculum with the rigors of training and competition,” states Nancy Mason, PharmD Associate Dean for Student Services.  Other examples include two other Pharmacy students who competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, again thanks to faculty support.
