Molecular Engineering of Self-Organizing & Site-Directed Intracellular Crystals in Living Organisms

We will explore a new chemical approach to synthesize new structural and functional elements inside the cells of living multicellular organisms based on intracellular microscopic crystals constructed from structure-forming, antioxidant (or antimicrobial) small molecule chemical agents. Ultimately, this project will lead to new therapeutic approaches, based on making macrophages resistant to toxicants, inflammatory stimuli and infectious organisms.
