ISPOR/AMCP Faculty Networking Auction Supports Relay for Life
By Chris Dolan, PharmD'15
For its fourth year, the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy Faculty Networking Auction has proven to be a huge success. This year’s auction raised nearly $5,500 – all of which was donated to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Fundraiser. This amount surpasses the earnings from 2013 by over $600 and is nearly double the amount initially brought in by the event when it was first introduced in 2011.
The secret behind the Auction’s continued success? Faculty offer networking outings that all students can appreciate! When your options range from a round of golf with the Chief Officer of Pharmacy, James Stevenson, PharmD, to breakfast with the UMHS residents, to a night on the town with the Director of Ambulatory Care Services, Lindsey Kelley, PharmD, MS, or numerous others from the health system, most students find the most difficult part to be keeping from bidding on these opportunities.
And fortunately for us, the faculty do an incredible job to ensure that their involvement is continuously on the rise. Even the College’s newest faculty members Dan Hertz, PharmD, PhD, and Sarah Kelling, PharmD, MPH have joined in on the event, matching student bids to help contribute to the $935 raised this year by faculty bid matching alone.
Although this year’s Networking Auction went well, I'm hopeful that the next will be even bigger and better. I look forward to seeing what the newly elected ISPOR/AMCP executive board will have in store for 2015, as it’s always an exciting event. “I can’t think of any better way to FUN-draise for such a great cause,” ends faculty member Randy Regal, BSPharm'83, PharmD'84.
