Like many events in 2020, Phi Delta Chi’s (PDC) annual National Award Ceremony went virtual for the first time in its history. PDC’s Executive Council filmed this year’s award results, with each Executive Council member recording from their own homes. The results were live streamed over Facebook, and Brothers could watch and live chat.

This year, the University of Michigan’s Alpha Chapter took 5th place overall out of more than 90 chapters in the Emory W. Thurston Grand President’s Cup competition. This award is the highest accomplishment a chapter can claim and is given to those who promote the profession of pharmacy and Phi Delta Chi. The award is scored using several reports including; the John D. Grabenstein Leadership report, the Ralph L. Saroyan Brotherhood report, the Albert B. Prescott Scholarship report, and the Nancy A. Alvarez Professional & Service Projects Report. From these scoring components, Alpha placed highest in the Brotherhood and Leadership reports, ranking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Alpha Chapter is honored to receive these awards and proud to be recognized for their brotherhood and leadership events, most notably their Annual Lineage Pumpkin Carving contest and for the first-ever student organization funded scholarship - the Prescott Leadership Scholarship.

U-M’s Alpha Chapter plans to take advantage of all the learning experiences and opportunities that come along this school year. With 1st place for the Emory W. Thurston Grand President’s Cup in mind, the Brothers of Alpha Chapter strive to continue their yearly events and plan to organize new events as well, with modifications, to make them virtual or socially-distanced friendly. Regardless of arising obstacles, PDC plans to make this year a year to remember.

PDC is a professional pharmacy fraternity that was founded at the University of Michigan back in 1883, which has now grown to over 90 Chapters in the United States. Its mission is to provide a lifelong home for pharmacy professionals in all stages of their career path, inspiring Leadership, Brotherhood, Service, and Scholarship.
