Congratulations to first place team, “Leggo My Pip/Tazo” - Michael Harrison, Millie Mo, Sarah Young, and Lindsey Zeplin

On the evening of November 2nd, teams of 3-4 third-year pharmacy students answered a series of rapid-fire infectious diseases questions, hoping to win the coveted “stuffed staph” trophy. Started by the Phi Delta Chi pharmacy professional fraternity, the trivia contest has become an annual event that the P3 students look forward to as a good review for their daunting infectious diseases therapeutics exam. Dr. Peggy Carver, the infectious diseases professor, presents the questions which cover pathogens (“bugs”), antibiotics (“drugs”), and even Harry Potter-themed cases. Each team submits their answers to the corresponding questions via a score card and a group of P1s and P2s grade the score cards and tally up points.

Early in the competition, teams were neck-and-neck until a tough round of questions regarding broader-spectrum, newer antibiotic agents appeared. All of the teams worked hard until the end, where a tie-breaker round was used to determine the 2nd and 3rd place team. In the end, it was Michael Harrison, Millie Mo, Sarah Young, and Lindsey Zeplin of Team “Leggo My Pip/Tazo” who came in first place! All of the individual team members of teams that placed in the Top 3 spots received certificates to acknowledge their dedicated studying to infectious diseases. A fun aspect of the trivia contest is that the 1st place team holds onto the trophy prize “stuffed staph” for the entire year until the next Bug Drug Trivia Contest, where they pass the trophy off to the new 1st place team.
