During the event, 314 lbs non-controlled and 18 lbs controlled medication were safely disposed of through incineration

The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy hosted its fourth Safe Medication Disposal Event on Tuesday, October 6, at Ingalls Mall. The event was a collaboration between the University of Michigan Police Department, Phi Delta Chi, APhA-ASP, and the Yellow Jug Old Drugs Program. During the event, 314 lbs non-controlled and 18 lbs controlled medication were safely disposed of through incineration.

This is the fourth Safe Medication Disposal Event, with progressively greater participation each session. Since the event's inception in March 2014, students have collected a total of 972 pounds of medication that are no longer in homes, landfills, or the water supply. The oldest medication turned in during the last collection event was dated 1985.

Thank you and congratulation to all those who participated. Check the College of Pharmacy events page for information on future medication disposal events.
