The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy hosted its sixth Safe Medication Disposal Event on Tuesday, October 4. Students operated two collection locations simultaneously, one on Ingalls Mall and a second at the North Campus Research Complex.

The event was a collaboration between the University of Michigan Police Department, Phi Delta Chi, APhA-ASP, and the Yellow Jug Old Drugs Program, with sponsorship from Advanced Care Pharmacy Services. During the event, 300 pounds non-controlled and 30 pounds controlled medication were safely disposed of through incineration.

Each Safe Medication Disposal Event has had considerable participation. Since the event's inception in March 2014, students have collected a total of 1,782 pounds of medication that are no longer in homes, landfills, or the water supply.

Check the College of Pharmacy events page for information on future medication disposal events.
