Robert Lipper, PhD‘78, has been named the 2016 Alumni Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award winner. This award honors alumni who have made significant lifetime contributions in their profession or to society through practice, research, education, or public service.

A 1978 graduate of the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, Dr. Lipper studied Pharmaceutical Chemistry under the guidance of Dr. William I. Higuchi. He retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. as Vice President, Biopharmaceutics Research and Development, in 2008. Dr. Lipper began his industrial career with Pfizer Central Research in Groton, Connecticut, where he was primarily involved with liquid and sterile product development for human and veterinary pharmaceutical products.  He joined Bristol-Myers Co. in 1983 and was promoted to Vice President in 1990, shortly after the merger between Bristol-Myers and Squibb.

Dr. Lipper is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the Parenteral Drug Association.  He also currently serves on the Dean’s Industrial Advisory Council for the Purdue University School of Pharmacy, and the Dean’s Advisory Committee for the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. 

Dr. Lipper established his consulting business, Back Cove Pharma, LLC, in February 2008, providing technical consulting in pharmaceutical development as well as education services.
