Year-End Giving Tips

Year-end gifts to the College can easily be made online by going HERE. This link may be used up to 11:59 pm on December 31, 2014 for tax-year credit.

If you are mailing your gift, to receive 2014 charitable deductions and credits, the IRS has ruled that credit card gifts are deductible only in the year the bank processes the transaction.  To be processed for tax year 2014, credit card gifts by mail must reach the University by December 12; OR you may call (888) 518-7888 (toll free) or (734) 647-6179 (local), M-F 9 AM - 4 PM EST, between December 13 and 31, 2014 to donate over the phone.  

Your gift by check must be postmarked by December 31, 2014.

Phi Delta Chi - Alpha Chapter: Through the Looking Glass, Fall 2014
From learning about networking and the ins and outs of professional attire to infectious diseases trivia, this semester the committees of Phi Delta Chi have been hard at work organizing programs designed to equip U-M College of Pharmacy students with the tools they need to succeed in both the classroom and in the real world of pharmacy. Highlights include the CV workshop and the annual Bug Drug Trivia.
SNPhA Student Chapter Participates in COTS Health Fair
For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy's Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) chapter collaborated with Wayne State University's SNPhA chapter to educate residents about diabetes, HIV/AIDS, asthma, healthy lifestyles, smoking cessation, and medication management.

On Thursday, October 16, 2014, the College celebrated with pharmacy student leaders and scholars in the Rho Chi Society and Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society (PLS).
UM-HSP Recognized with ASHP Outstanding Professional Development Project Award
Each year, UM-HSP hosts a professional development event, with the goal to further the education of members about health-system pharmacy, as well as facilitate relationships between student pharmacists and other professionals. The 2013-2014 professional development event hosted by UM-HSP was “Mentoring in a Moment.”
APhA-ASP Partnership Provides Health-Related Education to Community
On September 30, 2014, several members of American Pharmacists Association - Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) at the University of Michigan volunteered with Community Action Network (CAN) to provide education regarding exercise and self-treatment of sports injuries to children living in nearby Ann Arbor neighborhoods.

Dr. Steven Erickson Published in Journal of the American Pharmacists Association
Dr. Steven Erickson was recently published in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association (JAPhA), with an article that showcases the disparities in poorer and more African American ZIP codes in Wayne County in terms of price of medication, hours of pharmacies being open for business, and offering of immunizations.
Dr. Gregory Amidon Receives AAPS 2014 Research Achievement Award
Dr. Gregory Amidon has been selected to receive the 2014 Research Achievement Award in Physical Pharmacy and Biopharmaceutics, sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS). The Award was presented at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition held in San Diego, CA on behalf of the Physical Pharmacy and Biopharmaceutics Section.
Dr. James Moon Receives AAPS 2014 New Investigator Award
Dr. James Moon has been selected to receive the 2014 New Investigator Grant in Pharmaceutics and the Pharmaceutical Technologies sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS) for his contribution to the field of pharmaceutical sciences.

Dr. Anna Schwendeman’s Research Honored; Project Selected for MTRAC Fast Forward
In February 2013, the U-M Medical School was awarded $2.4 million to help fund the U-M Michigan Translational Research and Commercialization for Life Sciences Program (U-M MTRAC). Of the 39 proposals submitted in its first year, the MTRAC Oversight Committee selected 11 for funding, including one by Dr. Anna Schwendeman, Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy.
Faculty Receive Supplemental NIH Grant in Addressing Sex Differences Research
College of Pharmacy faculty members Dr. Vicki Ellingrod, John Gideon Searle Professor of Pharmacy and Associate Chair for Research Development and Mentorship in the Department of Clinical, Social, and Administrative Sciences, and Dr. Kathleen Stringer, Professor of Pharmacy in the Department of Clinical, Social and Administrative Sciences, received a supplemental grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr. Balkrishnan and Dr. Park Receive FDA Grant to Study Effectiveness of Immunosuppressant Medications
"This research represents an important extension of the ongoing research between the U-M Kidney Epidemiology and Cost Center (UM-KECC) and the College of Pharmacy,” states Dr. Balkrishnan.

Career Gateway 2014: Connecting Students and Employers
The College of Pharmacy hosted its 10th annual Career Gateway on Wednesday, October 29. This career fair provides an important connection between student pharmacists and potential employers, residency programs, and fellowships. Nearly 150 representatives from 40 companies engaged with over 250 students to explore diverse pharmacy career paths.
State-Wide Collaborative Effort with UMHS Receives ISMP Cheers Award
We are excited to announce that the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS), along with College of Pharmacy faculty members and Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) leaders, were selected to receive the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) Cheers Award.
Safe Medication Disposal Event: A Continued Success
The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy (UM-COP) hosted its second Safe Medication Disposal Event on Thursday, September 18th at Ingalls Mall. This event was a partnership with the UM-COP, Yellow Jug Old Drugs program, Village Apothecary Pharmacy, and the University of Michigan Police Department.
