Proteome-wide analysis of single-helical membrane proteins

Single-spanning (bitopic) proteins represent the most abundant, but still poorly studied class of membrane proteins. To facilitate comparative analysis of these proteins, we developed the Membranome database. The database collects information about architecture, topology, intracellular localization, and 3D structures of bitopic proteins from six organisms (Fig.4). The bitopic proteins were classified into different families, superfamilies, and functional classes. 3D structures of all TM α-helical domains were generated by the FMAP web server.
