Board of Regents Approve COP Chair Appointment
 
Karen Farris, PhD, has been named chair of the Department of Clinical, Social, and Administrative Sciences at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Dr. Farris’ appointment was recently approved by the U-M Board of Regents.
First Student-Sponsored Endowed Scholarship Announced
The Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Chi has founded the Prescott Leadership Award, the first student sponsored endowed scholarship at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy.

Pharmacist Lends Expertise to UMHS Antimicrobial Stewardship Program
Dr. Gregory Eschenauer recently joined the College of Pharmacy’s clinical faculty with a shared appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical, Social, and Administrative Sciences at the U-M College of Pharmacy and a clinical pharmacist in infectious diseases at the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS).

A special edition of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences was recently dedicated to Professor Gordon Amidon. The edition honors his many contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences, particularly in oral drug absorption.
Drs. Scott Larsen and James Shayman Collaborate to Achieve NIH Funding for Moving Small Molecule Into Clinical Development
Drs. Larsen and Shayman plan to use this grant to fund Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling studies on their best compounds, which they hope will lead directly to clinical trials.

Alumnus Honored by President of the Portuguese Republic
José A. Guimarães Morais, MS’80, PhD’80, has been named Grande Oficial da Ordem de Instrução Pública, which translates into Grand Official of the Order of Public Instruction.
College Alumna Recognized for Educational Excellence
Rachel Eyler, PharmD’08, was named the Teacher of the Year and Preceptor of the Year by the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. After earning her PharmD from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, Dr. Eyler accepted a residency at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor.
