Top Stories   2015 PharmD Graduates Accepted into Residency at an Unprecedented Rate   The success of the class of 2015 is credited to the outstanding group of students, as well as the support and guidance of the College of Pharmacy faculty.   Board of Regents Approve COP Chair Appointment   Karen Farris, PhD, has been named chair of the Department of Clinical, Social, and Administrative Sciences at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Dr. Farris’ appointment was recently approved by the U-M Board of Regents.

First Student-Sponsored Endowed Scholarship Announced The Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Chi has founded the Prescott Leadership Award, the first student sponsored endowed scholarship at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Welcome New Chief Pharmacy Officer Stanley Kent The College of Pharmacy is very pleased to announce that Stanley T. Kent, RPh, M.S., joined the University June 16, 2015.

Student News PharmD Candidate Named First Recipient of the LCDR Brian Parker Community Service Scholarship The College of Pharmacy is pleased to announce that Stephanie Burke, PharmD’16, has been selected as the first recipient of the LCDR Brian Parker Community Service Scholarship. Students Take Home Scholarships from National Pharmaceutical Association Annual Meeting Two University of Michigan College of Pharmacy students were awarded scholarships at the National Pharmaceutical Association Annual Meeting at the SNPhA Awards Banquet in Orlando, Florida on July 26, 2015.

Faculty News Pharmacist Lends Expertise to UMHS Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Dr. Gregory Eschenauer recently joined the College of Pharmacy’s clinical faculty with a shared appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical, Social, and Administrative Sciences at the U-M College of Pharmacy and a clinical pharmacist in infectious diseases at the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS). Special Issue of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences Dedicated to Professor Gordon Amidon A special edition of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences was recently dedicated to Professor Gordon Amidon. The edition honors his many contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences, particularly in oral drug absorption. Drs. Scott Larsen and James Shayman Collaborate to Achieve NIH Funding for Moving Small Molecule Into Clinical Development Drs. Larsen and Shayman plan to use this grant to fund Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling studies on their best compounds, which they hope will lead directly to clinical trials. Dr. Gundy Sweet Authors Applied Therapeutics Handbook Gundy Sweet, PharmD, Director of Curriculum Assessment and Clinical Professor of Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy, and Clinical Pharmacist, U-M Health System, recently authored Handbook of Applied Therapeutics, based on the trusted therapeutic content of Applied Therapeutics, 10e.

Alumni News Alumnus Honored by President of the Portuguese Republic José A. Guimarães Morais, MS’80, PhD’80, has been named Grande Oficial da Ordem de Instrução Pública, which translates into Grand Official of the Order of Public Instruction. College Alumna Recognized for Educational Excellence Rachel Eyler, PharmD’08, was named the Teacher of the Year and Preceptor of the Year by the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. After earning her PharmD from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, Dr. Eyler accepted a residency at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor.

Research News Newly Published Reports from the Rosania Research Group Describe Macrophages and their Drug-Sequestering Habits The Rosania Research Group at the College of Pharmacy has published four reports detailing the pharmacological, immunological, and optical analyses on macrophage-targeted drug sequestration.
