The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy is thrilled to announce that the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) program will begin accepting first-year students in fall 2025.
In its current format, the BSPS program admits students after the completion of at least one year of college. This exciting development opens new doors for aspiring pharmaceutical professionals to specialize the moment they step foot onto campus.
“This is an exciting advancement for the College of Pharmacy,” remarked Dean Vicki Ellingrod. “It means students can connect with our renowned faculty and start to build their educational foundation with our comprehensive pharmacy curriculum earlier than before, preparing them for a successful career in the healthcare field.”
This change allows prospective students to apply directly to the College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan.
Multidisciplinary by design, the curriculum includes classes in the foundations of pharmacy such as the sciences of medicines, biopharmaceutics and biology of drug delivery, as well as core courses in chemistry, mathematics, and biology taught across several schools and colleges at the University.
The BSPS program prepares students to pursue a career in healthcare or research. Upon graduation they can continue on to a professional or graduate degree or enter the workforce. Students who gain acceptance to the College’s PharmD program in their third year can “fast track” and complete their P1 and last year of the BSPS simultaneously.
In 2024, 89% of BSPS graduates at the University of Michigan went on to pursue their PharmD, Masters, or PhD, while 11% directly entered the workforce accepting positions in the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare, and biotech companies.
