The College of Pharmacy is proud to announce that John Clark, Clinical Professor of Pharmacy, has been awarded the John W. Webb Lecture Award by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and Northeastern University.

Presented annually at the ASHP’s’ Conference for Pharmacy Leaders, this prestigious distinction celebrates Clark’s extensive contributions and leadership in the field of pharmacy.

Dr. Clark joined the University of Michigan in 2007, and currently serves as Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer for Michigan Medicine. He’s credited with majorly expanding Michigan Medicine’s Pharmacy Residency Program allowing for more PharmD students to take part each year. Clark also played a role in developing the College of Pharmacy’s leadership elective course.

Clark has held several leadership positions through Michigan Medicine during his 17 years with the health system including roles in ambulatory and acute care, pharmacy residency training, and medication use system technology.

Nationally, Clark has made remarkable contributions through his role as Chair of Credentialing for ASHP. In this capacity, he reviewed and decided on the accreditation of pharmacy residency programs across the country. He also led the rewriting of accreditation standards, ensuring they met the evolving needs of the profession.

Recipients of the John W. Webb Lecture Award are selected by past awardees after a nomination process.

Clark will receive his award at the ASHP Conference for Pharmacy Leaders on October 7-8, 2024, where he will present on October 7. He will then speak at Northeastern University College of Pharmacy in Boston later on October 28th. Clark’s presentation will focus on teamwork, trust, and appreciation in pharmacy practice and how these leadership concepts shape the pharmacy experience for patients and colleagues.

“It’s an honor to receive this award, but an even bigger honor to be able to give a speech and share my love for the field of pharmacy,” said Clark. “It’s not often you get the opportunity to share the impact your profession has had on you.”
