U-M College of Pharmacy Honors 2026 Preceptor Awards

[Ann Arbor, Michigan] – The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy is proud to recognize four dedicated preceptors with the Experiential Education Excellence Faculty Award, Maize Preceptor of the Year Award, Blue Preceptor of the Year Award and Community Health and Engagement Preceptor Award.

Preceptors play an integral role in mentoring PharmD students throughout their rotations – providing real-life, hands-on experiences in health systems across the country.

Experiential Education Excellence Faculty Award

Amy Thompson, PharmD, BCACP, Clinical Professor, Director of Community Health and Engagement, has been awarded the Experiential Education Excellence Faculty Award. This award recognizes a dedicated U-M College of Pharmacy faculty member who has served as a primary preceptor for at least three years and has consistently hosted students for Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs). 

In addition to her faculty role, Dr. Thompson serves as the Director of Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Michigan Health, where she leads the development and expansion of pharmacist-led services in patient-centered care settings. Her teaching philosophy centers on creating personalized, learner-driven experiences that empower students to grow and succeed. 

 

Dr. Alexandra Keinath is smiling with the Maize Preceptor of the Year Award.

Maize Preceptor of the Year Award

Alexandra Keinath, PharmD, has been awarded the Maize Preceptor of the Year Award. This award honors adjunct clinical faculty who have precepted U-M PharmD students for at least one but fewer than five years, with consistent student engagement.

Since 2022, Dr. Keinath has served as a Clinical Pharmacist at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital. Her precepting philosophy emphasizes the importance of embracing new experiences, exploring unfamiliar disease states and capitalizing on opportunities to improve patient care through interprofessional communication.

 

 

Blue Preceptor of the Year AwardDr. Zeana Khodor is smiling with the Blue Preceptor of the Year Award.

Zeana Khodor, PharmD ‘18, has been awarded the Blue Preceptor of the Year Award. This award recognizes adjunct clinical faculty who have served as primary preceptors for U-M PharmD students for five or more years, with consistent student engagement. 

After completing residency, Dr. Khodor returned to her alma mater, the University of Michigan, serving as a Clinical Pharmacist at Mott Children’s Hospital. There she worked across a wide variety of specialties, including OB/Gyn, Children’s Emergency Department, Chemotherapy and General Pediatrics.

Rather than focusing solely on knowledge acquisition, Dr. Khodor’s precepting philosophy emphasizes critical thinking, resourcefulness and strategies for lifelong learning. 

 

Community Health and Engagement Preceptor Award

Thomas Hancock, PharmD ‘19, has been awarded the Community Health and Engagement Preceptor Award. This award honors preceptors who have served for at least two years and demonstrated a strong commitment to community health through active participation in outreach events and consistent support of students.

Dr. Hancock is passionate about creating meaningful, hands-on experiences that enable students to engage directly with patients. His precepting philosophy centers on empowering learners to take the lead in real-world settings while providing the guidance and support needed to build confidence and clinical skills. 

These awardees were recognized at the Preceptor Education and Recognition Symposium on April 29, 2026. The College of Pharmacy congratulates each of these individuals and thanks them for their service to pharmacy education!
