The Novel Investigations in Kidney Disease Outcomes (NIKO) program is directed by Dr. Amy Barton Pai. The mission of the NIKO program is to contribute new knowledge to optimize the safety and efficacy of drugs used in treatment of kidney disease.
The Principal Research Focus Areas of NIKO are:
- To evaluate the impact of pharmacotherapeutic agents on oxidative stress and inflammation in kidney disease
- To study the influence of inflammation on pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism in kidney disease
- To evaluate inflammation induced by cellular components from catheter-microbiota and determine the impact of available IV iron formulations on Staphylococcal spp. infections and biofilm formation
- Evaluation of models of innovative pharmacists roles in medication management in kidney disease patients
