University of Michigan Celebrates Grand Opening of New College of Pharmacy Building, Advancing the Future of Healthcare Education

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — As part of its 150th anniversary celebration, the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy today celebrated the grand opening of its new six-floor, 142,000-square-foot building. A state-of-the-art facility designed to transform pharmacy education, research and collaboration for generations to come.

Nearly 700 alumni, donors, faculty, staff, students, university leaders and community members gathered to commemorate one of the most significant milestones in the college’s history and celebrate a new chapter for one of the nation’s oldest and most respected colleges of pharmacy.

Located on Huron Street in the heart of campus, the new building is the university’s first mass timber structure, representing a major investment in sustainable design, innovative construction and the future of healthcare education.

“This is more than a building — it’s an investment in the future of pharmacy,” said Vicki Ellingrod, Dean of the College of Pharmacy. “It creates an environment where our students, faculty and researchers can advance scientific discovery and ultimately improve patient lives in Michigan and across the globe. Just as importantly, it’s an incredible space that allows our staff to collaborate and flourish.”

Purposefully designed to support both the evolving role of pharmacists as essential members of the healthcare team and the pharmacy profession, the new building features modern classrooms, collaborative learning environments, advanced research laboratories, simulation spaces and flexible areas that encourage interdisciplinary learning and discovery.

Students will also benefit from the building’s location between the university’s Central and Medical campuses, providing close connections to academic partners and direct access to the nationally recognized University of Michigan Health system.

The day’s Grand Opening celebration featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house, recognizing the many individuals and organizations whose support made the project possible.

“The impact of this space will be felt through every student trained here, every discovery made within these walls and every patient whose life is improved because of the education and innovation that happens here,” said Ellingrod.

The new College of Pharmacy building was made possible through the generosity of alumni, donors and university partners who shared a vision for creating an environment that will prepare future pharmacy leaders.
