Pharmacy Students Assist Alumni with COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic

April 1, 2021

Twenty-Three Michigan Pharmacy students joined College alumni and other pharmacists at the Napoleon, Michigan fire station to help administer 550 vaccinations on Saturday, March 27. The clinic, one of several held at the station so far, came about from a collaboration of Brown’s Advanced Care, Schmidt and Son, and Country Market pharmacies, the Napoleon Township Fire and Police Departments, and the Jackson County Health Department.

“We are very pleased to be part of the effort to rapidly deliver vaccine as soon as they became available,” notes Grant Brown, PharmD’83, CEO of Brown’s Advanced Care Pharmacy.  “Our first clinic was in early February and we’ve helped deliver over 5,000 vaccinations in two months.”

“I was so excited to be a part of this event,” says Hannah Darmofal, P2. “Our community has been waiting for the opportunity to get the vaccine, and to be able to be a part of this experience and provide patients with some hope during this past hard year.  It was an experience I will always remember.”

“I was able to educate patients on the vaccination, as well as provide them with a sense of relief that they were making a choice that will help protect them as well as the entire community,” continues Hannah. “As a pharmacy student, I was able to advocate for the profession of pharmacy and saw how much the community values our work.  This was an amazing opportunity and I highly encourage any pharmacy student to volunteer at these clinics when given the chance.”
