Patrick J. and Noreen M. Sinko Scholarship Fund
Established on December 21, 2015.
Established in 2015, this fund is used to support one or more students at the College.
Their scholarship recipient wrote the family the following thank you letter in recognition of their generosity in FY2020.
Dear Sinko Family,
Thank you for establishing the Patrick J. and Noreen M. Sinko Scholarship Fund through the College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan. As I start my second year as a graduate student in the Pharmaceutical Sciences PhD program, I am honored to say that I am receiving financial assistance from the College of Pharmacy directly through your scholarship fund. I want to personally thank you for your generosity and kindness in helping me pursue my goals at the University of Michigan.
I am a first-generation graduate student from Puerto Rico and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Natural Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico. I then completed a Master’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences specialized in Industrial Pharmacy at the same school. During my masters, I was able to work in materials characterization, solid form discovery & design, and crystallization process development. This experience allowed me to appreciate the vast and diverse world of Pharmaceutical Sciences, which led me to pursue a PhD to broaden my skills as a scientist. I chose to come to Michigan because it provided me the opportunity to apply some of the skills acquired in my previous studies while increasing my scientific background.
I currently work in Dr. Rosania’s lab, where I am interested in studying the bioaccumulation of dosing regimens and the microscopic transport properties of small drug-like molecules inside cells. I am not sure where my degree will take me after I graduate, but I am leaning towards working in industry. Eventually, I would like to find a way to return to an academic setting and have the opportunity to mentor students the same way many of my professors mentored me.
Again, thank you for your generosity and support through the Patrick J. and Noreen M. Sinko
Scholarship Fund. I am grateful and appreciate your assistance throughout my 2019-2020 academic year.
Sincerely,
Mery Vet George De la Rosa
