U-M College of Pharmacy Community Health and Engagement

From hosting flu vaccine clinics to administering safe medication disposal events, our students actively participate in community service.

Event Information
In partnership with EHS and DPSS, the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy APhA-ASP and Phi Delta Chi (PDC) student organizations are co-hosting the College’s annual Safe Medication and Sharps Disposal event on Tuesday, April 7, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Ingalls Mall. Community members are encouraged to bring unused or expired medications and used sharps (needles, syringes, and lancets) for safe, responsible disposal.

Participants may either drive up or walk up to the drop-off location: Ingalls Mall, 881 N University St (North Washington St across from Rackham).

Participation and Preparing for Drop-Off
This event is free and open to the public, and there is no limit to the amount of medications or sharps that community members may bring for disposal. Medications do not need to be in their original bottles to be accepted. Pill bottles may be brought with medications inside, and student volunteers will remove personal information and recycle bottles whenever possible.

Please refer to the event flyer on this page for detailed information about accepted items and sharps preparation guidelines.

Additional Information
The College of Pharmacy typically hosts Safe Medication and Sharps Disposal events twice each year, generally on the first Tuesday of April and October. Because the event is organized and staffed by student volunteers, scheduling may vary slightly from year to year. Unused medications cannot be donated for reuse and must be safely disposed of through these events or approved disposal locations.

If you are unable to attend, additional medication and sharps disposal sites throughout Washtenaw County can be found through the Washtenaw County Water Resources medication disposal network, which lists permanent disposal locations available to the community.

150 Acts of Service
In celebration of the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy’s 150th Anniversary, 150 Acts of Service is a Community Health and Engagement (CHE) campaign dedicated to strengthening our communities through meaningful, hands-on service.
