Interprofessional Education Begins at Michigan
 
On January 14, 2015, 52 students gathered in the Kellogg Auditorium at the School of Dentistry to participate in one of the university’s first courses in interprofessional education. They were among approximately 270 students in dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy and social work.

The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy strengthened scholarly ties with five leading pharmacy schools in China and will host highly qualified Chinese students in its Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.

Student Organization Webpages Go Live
Dating back to the time of Dean Prescott, the College’s student organizations provide valuable co-curricular growth opportunities. Most pharmacy students belong to at least one of these 15 active groups in the College of Pharmacy. 
Student Organizations, HSP & PSGC, Collaborate for Mentoring in a Moment
U-M Health-System Student Pharmacists (HSP) and Pharmacy Student Government Council (PSGC) collaborated to plan the event. Mentoring in a Moment gives students an opportunity to establish mentoring relationships with health systems pharmacists based on similar career interests. Thirteen pharmacists and 25 students participated in this year’s event.
Helen Waldschmidt Awarded American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship
It is the College’s pleasure to announce that Helen Waldschmidt, Medicinal Chemistry PhD student, has been awarded an American Heart Association (AHA) Predoctoral Fellowship. This extremely competitive, two-year fellowship was awarded by the AHA Research Committee after reviewing Helen’s research proposal titled “Targeting GRK2 as a Therapeutic for Heart Failure”. The fellowship will begin in January 2015.

Dr. Michael Kraft Receives A.S.P.E.N. Excellence in Nutrition Support Education Award
Dr. Michael Kraft has been nominated and selected to receive the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) Excellence in Nutrition Support Education Award, which recognizes one nutrition support educator’s excellence in the delivery of professional education. The award is open to A.S.P.E.N. members who have teaching responsibilities in an academic, community, or other supervised training setting.
Dr. Eddie Boyd & Dr. Leslie Shimp Collaborate on New Book
Eddie L. Boyd, MS, PharmD, Emeritus Associate Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, has recently released a book entitled African American Home Remedies-A Practical Guide With Usage and Application Data. The book is filled with the results of years of research compiled within the African American community.
Dr. Shaomeng Wang Elected to National Academy of Inventors
Election as a National Academy of Inventors (NAI) fellow is a professional distinction given to academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society.
Dr. Haojie Zhu Receives 2015 AACP New Investigator Award
Dr. Haojie Zhu has been selected to receive a 2015 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) New Investigator Award. The AACP New Investigator Award Program provides start-up funding for new pharmacy faculty’s research programs.

The Michigan Experience – Team Based Learning
Therapeutic Problem Solving (TPS) is a five-semester course sequence which is part of the core of the College of Pharmacy PharmD curriculum. When the curriculum was redesigned, the faculty “flipped the classroom” for the TPS sequence and adopted Team Based Learning (TBL) as the pedagogy for the course.
Pharmacy Staff Member Peter Batra Selected as 2014 Mentor of the Year
Peter Batra, Research Analyst in the Clinical, Social, and Administrative Sciences department at the U-M College of Pharmacy, was recently awarded the 2014 Mentor of the Year Award by the University of Michigan Mentorship Program.
Celebrating 10 Years of Partnership with Hope Clinic
This year, we commemorate the College of Pharmacy's highly-valued 10-year collaboration with Hope Clinic, who offers free medical care, dental care, and a variety of social services to uninsured members of the community.
