2017 Alumni Service Award in Pharmacy Presented to Richard Grossman
Richard A. Grossman, BSPharm’79, has been honored with the 2017 Alumni Service Award in Pharmacy. This award recognizes graduates of the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy who have made significant contributions to the profession of pharmacy.
Mr. Grossman entered the University of Michigan in 1974 as an eager freshman focused on his career goal: to become a dentist. But luckily for thousands of residents in Michigan...and beyond...his proverbial “best laid plans” diverged in a different direction when he found himself deeply drawn to the pharmaceutical field. Or as he says, “falling in love with it.”
Mr. Grossman graduated from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in 1979, and has dedicated nearly four decades serving and advocating for the profession he loves.
Just three years after graduation, Mr. Grossman had ownership in his first pharmacy. He later purchased and today still owns and operates West Grange Pharmacy, a hugely popular, 14,000 square foot hometown pharmacy and gift shop in Trenton. Passionate about customer service, Rich enjoys interacting and consulting with his longtime customers, assisting them with their unique medical needs, and generously supporting Downriver community, schools, and charitable organizations.
As president and CEO of Sav-Mor Drugstores for 22 years, Mr. Grossman’s leadership has been instrumental in growing the chain to almost 100 locations. He became the Chief Operating Officer of NoviXus Pharmacy Services in 2009. NoviXus is the first automated mail order/central fill pharmacy located in Michigan. Under his guidance the customer base at NoviXus increased from one employer group to 150 employer groups, serving almost 600,000 patients today.
Mr. Grossman is a member of NACDS, NCPA, and MPA. He and his wife Jody, who met as classmates in the College of Pharmacy, reside in southeast Michigan.
