Role Overview and Bio

Dr. Lydia Benitez is a board-certified Hematology/Oncology PharmD and Clinical Associate Professor at University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. She serves as the Michigan Oncology Quality Consortium (MOQC) Director Oncology Stewardship and Pharmacists Optimizing Oncology Care Excellence in Michigan (POEM). Born and raised in Puerto Rico, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2010 and her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2014 from the University of Michigan. She went on to complete a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY-2 Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Residency at University of Michigan where she served as Chief Resident during PGY-1 year. She has previously served as a hematology pharmacist, most recently as the leukemia clinical pharmacist specialist at Michigan medicine (2018-2025) focusing on increasing and optimizing outpatient delivery of leukemia and malignant hematology therapies and practicing stewardship. Her scholar interests include the appropriate use of therapeutics in oncology and malignant hematology, building a framework for oncology stewardship, and the management of leukemia in adolescent young adults. She was a founding member and maintains a leadership role within the Hematology Outcomes Research Consortium (HERO).
