Health Services Research
It’s all about outcomes and using data science to influence healthcare policy for the betterment of medication access and adherence. By analyzing population variables, body composition and nutrition, then integrating it with data on access, use, cost, and quality we can understand how populations are using medications across disease states.
Our pharmacist-scientists working in this research track have expertise across the informatics continuum: AI and ML, digital health, data-driven analytics, software and technology development, data infrastructure, pharmacy practice and implementation science.
Precision Pharmcotherapy Research
We study the personalization of approved treatments for optimal health outcomes. Through this research, we are able to predict, monitor and recommend the best therapies and dosage based on an individual’s genes, biomarkers, metabolomics, body composition and lifestyle.
Our faculty in this research track work across disease states including oncology, rare diseases, cardiovascular, psychiatry, and in critical and transplant care and have expertise in pharmaco-kinetics, -genomics, -metabolomics and proteomics.
Clinical Practice
Our clinical practice is a center for resounding excellence that serves our patients across the lifespan—from pediatrics to geriatrics. We are committed to addressing health for all and enhancing the quality of life for our patients. Our faculty drives advancements in care across all settings, from clinics and hospitals to boardrooms and communities.
Our clinical practitioners tackle the significant population health challenges of today and aim to solve them for a better tomorrow. Our team’s expertise ranges from primary care to specialty areas, including cardiology, infectious disease and oncology including increasing access to services like pharmacotherapy.
Meet the Department Chair
Our team is led by our Department Chair, Amit Pai, PharmD, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy, He is also Co-Director of the Pharmacokinetics Core Laboratory and Associate Director of Pharmacomorphomics for the Morphomics Analysis Group at the University of Michigan. His research focus is optimal drug dose selection in specific populations such as obesity, lifespan and health span.

Our faculty focuses on the better use of medications at an individual level, whether that is using AI and ML, using genetics to predict and monitor the best treatment, or advancing pharmacy practice across disease states and the entire lifespan to optimize patient medication outcomes.
