What is Clinical Pharmacy?
Clinical Pharmacy is concerned with the science and practice of rational medication use (American College of Clinical Pharmacy). The faculty of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy is comprised of clinical practice faculty, clinical research faculty, and social/policy sciences faculty with diverse research and practice interests. Clinical faculty typically provide direct patient care, didactic instruction in our professional (PharmD) program, and oversee experiential clinical training of PharmD candidates and residents.
Clinical research faculty focus on translational research to understand and improve treatment outcomes for patients receiving medication. Social/policy faculty focus on research to understand and improve outcomes for patient populations and improve medication utilization. Research faculty also provide didactic instruction in the PharmD program and mentor research trainees in the Clinical Translational Pharmaceutical Sciences Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program.
