Role Overview and Bio
Robert Cichewicz received his BS degrees in Anthropology and Biology from Grand Valley State University, an MS degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and a PhD in Natural Products Chemistry/Horticulture from Michigan State University. His research and teaching focus on the translational applications of natural products and nature-inspired biomolecules from fungi and animals. He is the principal investigator for the Biomolecule Innovations Team in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Michigan, which focuses on identifying small-molecule and peptide solutions for unmet medical needs related to infectious diseases and other therapeutic areas.
Research Interests
-
Natural products drug discovery and development (special interests in antifungal and antiparasitic biomolecules)
-
Fungi and their metabolites: structure determination, metabolomics, and biological activities
-
Nature-inspired peptidic biomolecules: synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and therapeutic applications
