Research Interests
My research directly addresses the eminent health threat lurking over human race due to absence of any plausible next generation antibiotic/ anticancer candidate in the clinical pipeline. I use a multipronged strategy to discover and characterize novel drug leads from microbial cultures by using sophisticated mainstream techniques as well as through harnessing the complete biosynthetic potential of cryptic or minimally expressed secondary metabolite gene clusters. In addition, unique target based approaches are also envisaged to identify potent anticancer, antiviral, antidiabetic, and antibiotic inhibitors, which complements the aforementioned strategy and comprehensively exploits the secondary metabolite capability of microbes for obtaining new druggable molecular entities.
