Let us first explain the difference between the College of Pharmacy and Rackham Graduate School. We are one of the 19 schools and colleges at U-M and the master’s is housed within our college. Our graduate programs are co-administered by the Rackham Graduate School. Rackham oversees the requirements, procedures, admissions and grants the master’s degree.

Fall Term Only

No Spring Term admissions

Applications

Applicants must apply through the Rackham Graduate School and setup an application account

Application Fees

For U.S. citizens and those with permanent resident visa status, the application fee is waived

For Non-U.S. citizens, the application fee is $90

The admissions committee will begin reviewing applications in February

Decisions are sent out on a rolling basis through May 1

When evaluating applications, we look at the whole picture and every piece is important. This is why we wait until all of your documents have been submitted before we will look at your application. Strong letters of recommendation are key.

Academic Statement of Purpose

Up to a two-page statement about your academic and research background, career goals, and how the master’s program will help you meet your objectives

Personal Statement

A 500-word maximum essay that describes how your background and life experiences (including cultural, geographical, financial, educational or other opportunities and challenges) motivated you to pursue a master’s at the College of Pharmacy

Letters of Recommendation

Strong letters of recommendation are essential; therefore, you should choose your recommenders carefully. Choose faculty who know you well and can speak to your strengths, preferably from your area of research interest. A letter from a professional or a key educational administrator might also be appropriate. Letters from personal friends or family members are discouraged

Is the WES evaluation accepted for the transcript review?

An evaluation provided by a credential service will not be accepted, for example, Educational Credentials Evaluators (ECE) or World Education Services (WES). Exception: the Rackham Graduate School will accept electronic evaluations from Educational Perspectives (EP).

Is the Capstone completed during the 1-year program?

Yes, you will take classes in the fall and winter terms and complete the capstone (through an 8-credit course) during the spring/summer term. Registration is required and tuition is paid for the fall, winter, and spring/summer terms

 

Which tuition fee is applicable for me?

This master’s program requires the payment of three terms of tuition and fees (fall, winter, & spring/summer). Review tuition costs and fees; when on the page, make the following choices:

  • Academic year: (choose the current academic year)

  • Full or Half Term: Full Term
  • Level of Study: Graduate

Please Note: Financial support for the master’s program is provided through sources obtained by the student (Federal Student Aid, private loans, and external scholarships). We encourage interested applicants to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to determine their eligibility for student financial aid.  The College of Pharmacy does not offer financial aid for students in the master’s program. The University of Michigan offers an optional payment plan which allows you to spread the payment of anticipated educational expenses for fall or winter term over five payments. More information

 

Is the GRE required?

No

 

Does the program provide assistantship opportunities?

No, however, students complete a research capstone under the direction of a faculty mentor in their final term for credit

 

Is the schedule for completion of the program based on the student or is there a program deadline?

Students are expected to follow the MSIPS timeline with enrollment in three terms – fall, winter, and spring/summer.
