Associate Professor Gaither Honored for Service
as SAS Department Chair

ssociate Professor of Social Administrative Sciences (SAS) Caroline Gaither, PhD, completed her three-year appointment as SAS Department chair in June 2007. In July, the SAS and Clinical Sciences Departments were merged to form the Clinical, Social, and Administrative Sciences (CSAS) Department. The chair of the newly formed CSAS is Professor of Pharmacy Bruce A. Mueller, PharmD, who had been chair of the Clinical Sciences Department. Mueller also serves as assistant director of pharmacy services for University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. Dean Frank J. Ascione, BSPharm'69, PharmD'73, PhD, praised Gaither's leadership at a brief Oct. 5 ceremony held at the College. "Caroline managed admirably during a difficult transition period, overseeing the consolidation of two departments with great skill, diplomacy, and wisdom," Ascione said as he presented Gaither with a plaque, acknowledging her tenure as department chair. In September, the University of Toledo (U-T) College of Pharmacy named Gaither its 2007 Distinguished Alumna Award winner. In conferring the award, U-T cited Gaither's career achievements in research, teaching, administration, professional leadership, and publishing. Gaither received her BSPharm at U-T.
