rofessor Emeritus of Social and Administrative Sciences Duane Kirking, PhD, and his wife, Marilyn, get a good laugh out of the "roasting" Duane took during a retirement party held in his honor, Oct. 19, 2007, at the U-M Alumni Center. Kirking ended his 27-year Michigan Pharmacy career in August 2007.
Well-wishers at the event included family; College faculty, staff, and former graduate students; and personal friends and colleagues reaching back to Kirking's undergraduate years at the University of Wisconsin. Last summer, Duane and Marilyn established the Duane M. Kirking Fund for Graduate Students in Social and Administrative Sciences. The fund will support one or more graduate students in the social and administrative sciences for travel to professional meetings for the purpose of presenting results of their research. Should the Fund grow to sufficient size, it may also be used to support a Duane M. Kirking Fellowship for a graduate student in social and administrative sciences conducting dissertation research.
